Title: Bald Eagle nesting
Post by: redhawk on April 07, 2011, 12:26:39 AM
You need to go to this site    http://www.stream.tv/decoraheagles  It is neat they have a  camera sit up to give live pictures of the eagle on her nest.  She has hatched out 2 baby chicks.  It is really cool her mate brings her food .  So far I have saw a squirrel, a rabbit, a duck and 2 fish.  You can see them nite and day.  The nest is located at Decorah, Iowa.

There is a web site called petcam, they have dozens of listings like that to watch stuff. Most of the Zoo's also have them. Been watching them for a few years. The Penguin cam at the artic is cool.

Daddy's being a good provider. This morning he has brought a fresh rabbit and two fish for his family to eat. The third egg hatched last night and was interesting to watch momma take care of the chick after it came out. Unfortunately, it's not likely the third chick will survive. Most of the time when there are three chicks in a nest the weakest one will be pushed out by the other two, survival of the fittest when food is low. Might not happen this time as it seems daddy is hunting well and providing for his family.

They are big beautiful birds. I like watching this. It shows a caring and gentile side. The ones out here are like dive bombers. You have to admit they're cool to see in action!!!

If you are having trouble getting on the site ,it might be because so many other people are on the site.  One time today I noticed there was over 200,000.  I usually get on first thing in the morning and haven't had any problem.

I only thought it had snowed over the week end.  Today it has been some more nasty weather to be up in a tree 80 feet trying to keep 3 babies warm dry and fed.  Looks like it has snowed  several inches and she has her hands full.  Hope it turns warm on the back side of this front.  It is time it turned Spring for you guys!

Today was a nasty day for the eagles. Snow every where. Ice on the lens. Momma looked like she had it under control.. Hope the weather gets better real soon...
The eaglets are getting bigger, on a happier note..

Watching right now, all three eaglets moving around, one of the parents is watching them and doing some nest improvements, just brought in a big stick and added it to the nest just out of camera range....

Amazing how big they are, watching you get no real sense of perspective.  Maybe after they leave the nest this year the people who run the site out to install a ruler or something to give people and idea o the size

They got bigger, it seems everyday the double in size. One of the bigger ones was trying to eat a fish on his own. It looks like the lens is freezing over.

Looks like more bad weather.. They need to install a wiper and defroster for the camera.  I can't believe I'm addicted to these eagles, like I am..  :applause:

Boy oh boy, have they grown. They are starting to be more active also. Can't believe how much they've grown. Sure hope that nest has a pull out section. It's becoming fuller by the day. How exciting...

I don't know how many of you are still watching the eagle's? It's been 9 days and they have more than doubled in size. At least thats the way i see ithem.Looks like they'll be working on their legs and feet next..
I'm sure it won't be to much longer and out they'll go.

A student and I were watching today and the next to the biggest went running across the nest flapping and I thought he was taking off.  He didn't like much or he would have had to learn quickly.  It won't be long.  I don't know what my students are going to do then.  They have to check in every day.  Hopefully school will be out before they take the plunge!

Mama has been sitting out on the limb the last 2 days I think she's trying to get them to flap out to her.  Several times I have seen one of them flapping and lift off a foot or so.  If he had done it today the wind would have carried him off.  It is going to happen soon!  Thank goodness school gets out tomorrow my students have got  as attached to this site as I have.  Don't know what I am going to do when they do take off.

They sure are getting brave these days. All three out on those limbs flapping and jumping from the nest to the branches. It'll be any day now, and they'll be flying away..
Have to say thank you to Redhawk for the posting of the site. It has been an awesome experience to see them develop like they have. I now have a new found respect and admiration for this. :applause:                                 Ron

It sure has been interesting to see their progress from hatching to flying off.  I have really enjoyed watching them.  I was amazed how caring and nurturing the parent eagles were to their young.  My students at school really enjoyed watching them also. It was a good learning experience for them. I am going to miss checking in on them every day.

have a nest of tree swallows in the boom of the sail boat across the dock from me. it is fun watching the parents whiz around catching bugs and to hear the babies chirping as an adult lands at the opening. the eagles here drive the seagulls nuts. GO EAGLES. the other day they were in the park sitting in a tree and one gull was on the top of the building watching and seending reports back to the nesting site. lots of eagles here in the PAC NW now   soo cool
