Use it for folks that don't know enough to like the smell of brimstone in the morning...   :mini-devil-28492:
Beware of listing your addresses and phone numbers though as Facebook is planning on releasing that to 3rd parties. That means sell your info to marketers. Just leave that info off of the profile page.

Same here, and despite all their promises to safeguard peoples privacy they've already had problems with hackers stealing personal info and selling it to advertisers.  Why would you purposely allow some advertising hack access to your personal life?

I am on face book because it is the best way to get information to my Scout Troop.
They check in all the time on Face book but wont check the Email often.

In general I reject anything involving our rapidly-advancing technology, except what's absolutely necessary to function in today's world. My TV only functions as a screen for my DVD player and VCR -- I never bothered to invest in the stuff to do whatever conversion was required to continue my non-existent cable and network viewing pleasure. I actually can't remember the last time I had the thing on, even to view one of my movies. I've owned a copy of an Australian western called "The Proposition" for a couple of years now -- it's still wrapped in the store packaging.

I don't own a cell phone. My observation is that cell phones for the vast majority of their owners are nothing more than substitutions for having to think and remember things (why have to remember to tell a family member some minor thing at the end of the day, when you can call and tell them at work -- or better yet while you're at work?), and the causes of more petty rudeness and serious accidents than anything in human history with the possible exception of being drunk in public or behind the wheel of a car. Plus the fact possession of a cell phone seems to give the world the notion that you're available to talk 24/7, and Hades will freeze over before I make myself that accessible.

I use a computer, obviously, because it opens a world of markets and contacts to me that has made possible the success of what twenty years ago would probably be a failing attempt to start a business, but I do not love the machine or feel any desire to own newer or better than what I absolutely need to stay in touch with people.

And, so far as staying in touch -- the word "friend" gets thrown around a lot on the internet. I found out the hard way that its too-frequent and casual use has robbed the word of any real meaning. I have numerous friendly acquaintances and friendly business contacts, via the internet. With only a select few exceptions my actual friends are people I've met and developed a liking for in the old-fashioned face-to-face fashion. The exceptions are people I'm planning to meet within the next six months or so. Discussion forums are a proper context for the sort of relationships one has with folks on the internet. "Social networks" serve no purpose to me, personally, other than to further what I consider an illusion of close relationships with people.

If I sound crabby or bitter I will only say that you obviously don't know what I've been put through, the past year to year and a half, not only by actual (former) friends but by people who claimed to be friends till that put a burden upon them of needing to be sympathetic and understanding. At that point I became someone who was spoiling their relaxing internet experience.

Lesson learned. No Facebooks or MySpaces in my life. More power to you who enjoy them, but I'll politely pass.

I have no desire to get on facebook. I like this forum but I barely have time for it and I don't need anything else to take up my time. I would rather go get some shooting done. Smoke is a good thing when it is coming from a gunbarrel, especially if it is a muzzleloader!

I'm on there but I'm like mongrel, I hate this "new technology"; but it does make sharing info on local shoots easy and to keep up with whats going on.

Was on face book on rare occasions, BUT NO MORE!  had a confrontation with a friends family member, in the presence of two others, I told them stated what was I felt  right and also what is according to the law. They stormed out of the house.  Then told everyone in the family a completely different version of what really was said, and how it was said.  After several months I received an email from face book stating that this person wanted to be friends.  I thought it over and after several days  I went of face book and responded to them as a friend.  I feel there is no reason to hold a grudge, and peace is better than war, so I reached out.  BUT, they didn't reach out, It was facebook that was tried to put two and two together, but it equalled more bitterness.  So, no I don't and wont go on face book again.  Anything I have to say or do will be done face to face and this way we can settle our differences straight on, then and there.  Besides, I recently have found more enjoyment in the company of my Great Plains Rifle than I have in their company

I would have to say that Mongrels statements are nearly exactly my sentiments . [hmm]   This forum and a couple of others have folks with many of the same interests and concerns as myself.  chrrs This amount of interaction with like folks seems to satisfy my needs .  hi: For those that enjoy these forms of cyber interaction , more power to you . thmbsup   As was said , I have e-mail , and the use of private messaging on what I feel are the three best muzzle loading sites on the net .  dntn
