Title: Getting the brains out
Post by: KHickam on January 20, 2011, 12:39:49 AM
I have two doe deer heads that I have frozen and I am about to take them out and thaw them out - I have had to tan my hides with eggs and neatsfoot oil and want to try the real thing.

My thought was to take my bone saw and take a piece of the skull and using a spoon  to get the brains out.

Any other ideas or a more efficient way of doing it?

The only way I have found to do it and get all the brains out is to use the bone saw or sawzall and cut the top of the skull off, reach in the opening and pull the brain out and do the same on the top of the skull cap. Thaw them out but keep them cold when you cap them, much cleaner.
