Does anyone have an easy capote pattern?  Thanks

Not sure how you go in and search a topic but there have been several posted here on MLC.  I have a real simple one that use but kinda hard to put into words. it is also one of the ones mentioned.  Do make sure the blanket you use is long enought for how ever long you want it be.  Measure from base of neck to mid thigh or however long you want.  fold blanket around you and see if it over laps as much as want or minimum to cover the girth!  This is hard part to explain,  figure where the shoulder seam would be and fold each side over - this will become the front with overlap.  then you cut area out for shoulder and small scoop for neck. the remaining 1/3 or so of blanket then becomes the sleeves and hood or belt depending on how much left over.  You can also take a shirt that fits you or is a little large and get a guide.  Be easier for you to just look at the patterns listed. If can find this one it is simpler than some of the ones you buy. It is called Mountain Man Clothing and has patterns for caps, hats, shirts, shoes, the whole kit and kabootle.

That's the problem.  I did buy a pattern but it is way too complex for me!  ...Don't know any gals who sew to help me with the pattern so I'm on my own for this project.

Bulldog Lady has sewed two adult sized capotes, one for me and one for my dad plus one kid sized for my 7 yo niece, why don't you PM her and see if you can work something out.  Do you already have a blanket or looking to buy one? Your blanket should be at least 72X90.

That's a good one.  Nice thing about that one is you can print it out, convert the measurments onto butcher paper or something similar and use that as your pattern.

Found something that might help you get a feel for where you need to make the cuts on your blanket for constructing a capote;http://picasaweb.google.com/lonegreeneagle/SurvivalGear?feat=email#5409777707666736274

JBT....... how's the capote coming along, and which pattern did you purchase?  If it's the one I think it is, I can maybe help you out.

I think William will say the same about Bulldog Lady, but to be fair Mouse had a lot of helpful information for Bulldog Lady when she made her first one!

Did a quick google, referenced to great coat - 2 pics depict a longer, multi caped, button front with wide cuffs.  Is that what you have in mind? One did say needed 6 yds of 45" material, nothing mentioned about blanket material.  Swore never make one with a cape again without a pattern.  maybe my friend "Meeke Mouse" hi: has a better idea.  Thanks Bulldog lady

Fraid I can't take on anymore projects for a while, have had sewers block and now things are piling up!  Did finally get the machine out yesterday so maybe can get in gear again.  Should have used those snowed in days more constructively!! hdslp
Between the two of us sure we can get that capote figured out. Will let you know when caught up but if you can get to it first - you are much more knowledgable than I am.  Good to have ya back again, Meek -
