Ah agree the Irish probably were not the first to try em. As to what caliber is best, why an 8 pounder does just fine provided you tie a good enough knot in the line afore you chunk it over board as an anchor.  blah Sorry just couldn't resist that.

strpot  Who went inside that shell in the first place musta been plumb starved to pry  it open and think that lump in a wad of slime was edible!  Now if they got past that and had some butter to fry them in ,that is a different story, or some milk to make stew! dntn   Now while we on subject of oysters and their origin- the same applies above to mt. oysters.  Aware that folks never wasted anypart of an animal but to eat it vs ??  Now they is might fine eating, lamb, pork, beef, turkey,  but they did lots of other things with piece-in parts, beside eat them.   Again delicacies are contained in some strange containers.   On the latter, just don't ask to help, cut, clean and cook in same day, please.  ok my two cents worth,

My grandfather used to have me dive in his lake and bring up the clams.  Deep fat fried they were good.  Then he and my father would snack on pickled pigs feet -- I had to leave the room. noway

the answer is, indians. all clams were eaten by them. they would spend most of the summer, where i live, at narragansett bay, mount hope bay, sakonnet river, all of the bays, salt water rivers, and mouths of fresh water streams. we still spend time much there diggings clams, catching crabs, fishing, and collecting shell fish from the rocks. they taste best when boiled or steamed in the salt water from the bays, and rivers.

I too will eat almost any thing, but I do draw the line at raw fish and oysters.
As far as cottage cheese goes, if I go to a restaurant and cottage cheese is on the special I tell them to hold it and if they put it on the plate and way I make the take the whole plate back and start over. In the rare case that I get any back talk, I just walk out.
