Hey Tom. Can you let the rest of us know? I have a stock that has excellent curl on the butt, but none on the foearm and would like to even it out a little.

tom-h

of course  i can  ,ma by jerry can copy and paste the instructions i sent him in a pm ,im sorry  i didn't think to post it  in open for everyone ,not intentional  just old age ;D

Take the stock strip off all the old finish  ,take about 2 feet of small dia copper wire  like out of an electric motor start at the forearm and wrap the wire close but got to have a space between wire =to about a pencil lead  secure the end with a needle and use a blow torch, scorch the wood lightly till dark in color don't burn it  let cool move copper wire down and start again where you stopped, do this until the whole stock is striped;  now with 000 steel wool buff lightly until the stripes are some what blended  but don't darken the light stripes  after steel wool apply stain let dry and true-oil if done right it is very hard to tell from real curly.

Here you go Tom and others

Well here is another "got ta try" article.  Thanks Tom-h for the artical, have always thought about trying to do artificial strip on straight grain wood but was not really sure how to go about it so never got around to make the attempt....Bullfrog

Does the wire block the flame from scorching the wood, or does it get so hot that it does the scorching?
Do you have any photos of the process?

Chaffa Hosa

I think I needed to wind the wire closer together
but here is what I have now
Started with this

After sanding and reshaping a little

after the torch work

And after resanding, steel wool and staining
