It's been raining pretty much continuously here for weeks, and till I quit the "real" job last week a clear day meant I came home from work worn-out from playing catch-up on mowing soaking-wet grass -- and usually as it was starting in raining again. This made taking pictures a little difficult, to say the least. Lack of pictures doesn't mean a lack of work, though, and yesterday I took advantage of half a day's worth of clear skies to finally get some pictures proving it.

This is a curly-maple-restocked CVA Mountain Rifle, one of the old ones with "MADE IN USA" plainly stamped in the barrel. The owner wanted a fullstock and a fullstock he is getting. Everything except the ramrod pipes, single-bolt german silver sideplate, and stock itself are the original CVA parts. The owner is a friend of Plainsman's who happens to live fairly near me.

Well, you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?

You been busy...

I had one of those a while back, it sold very quickly. Go figger...

They are/were a fine gun, whether with the "Made In USA" barrels or the Spanish ones. My understanding is that Deer Creek, up in Waldron, IN, is once more offering an American-made version, but I haven't yet laid eyes or hands on one of these critters.

I actually have two more of the barrels, once a .45 USA-marked and the other a .54 caliber with just "Ardesa, Spain" and the caliber on it. Both are being built into trade fullstocks, with brass hardware. That's the only problem I would have if I got my hands on any of these rifles, complete -- I immediately want to tear them apart and re-stock all the good stuff. So, at present, I have at least one complete stock with capbox and not much else attached to it, and I'm pretty sure that buried on the kitchen table somewhere there's a second one.

Very nice guns, like I said.

Another good gun takes shape.  I like.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

A carry gun for the deer woods.  Very nice work Mike......Tom

I believe that is exactly what Jamie has in mind. He's got woods of his own and very specific ideas about what a rifle needs to be to work best in those woods. Hopefully this nails it for him.

SierraMan

Really like going full stock on the old girl.  Great job, Mike.

In the white, ready to be handed over to its new owner. Not much curl to the wood, but still in my somewhat biased opinion a really nice working rifle.

I like that!... but then again I like most of the stuff you build! I had a chance to buy one those CVA Mountain rifles a while back....I could have purchased it for 60$ because it had a gaping crack in the stock...NOW I wish I would have!!... hdslp
