Electronic Fired Muzzleloader

In Line Muzzleloaders, 209 primers, sabot slugs, power pellets, enhanced sights and now Electrically fired ignitions systems. I wonder if "primitive hunting weapons" will in the near future come with the optional grenade launcher system. You would think that these modern muzzleloader users could coax manufacturers into the newest GPS guided sabots with radar aiming and explosive or armor piercing rounds (you know so in case a GREAT BEAR on the attack needs to be put down). another nice feature would be "Auto Ramming" where the ram rod is hydraulically operated by an on board computer system and reloads the muzzleloader say 15 or 20 rounds per minute (Once again in case you are being pursued by something really dangerous).
Electronically Detonated Muzzleloading Rifles, I wonder what brand 9volt battery did Daniel Boone prefer...Eveready or The Copper Top?

Chaffa Hosa

The state of Mississippi has legalized single shot center fire break open rifles, like the H&R Handi rifle, as a primitive weapon legal to use in deer season. Its very seldom you see a traditional rifle in the woods around here, and if you do its in either my hands or one of my sons.

Are these electronic systems supposed to be faster than a 209 system?

Roaring Bull

yeah they are Jerry.  Don't think I wanna trust my luck to a 9=volt battery, though.

Didn't Remington try this with a centerfire rifle a few years back? You don't hear much about it anymore, I guess to the tune of nearly $1200 may have something to do with that.

Ranger

I don't know how they can call these muzzleloaders! Ok they load a caseless round through the muzzle. But thats it! powder pellets, sabot rounds electronic ignition. Come on, it has to stop somewhere. The states should change from muzzleloader season to primitive weapons season. I'm going to start ranting here pretty soon...

SwampHunter

yeah I just have to blow off some steam sometimes from the legal foolishness that exist these days in our state and federal governments. A "Primitive Weapon" ie Muzzleloader was meant to be used with Black Powder and a PRB from a wheel, Flint or Percussion ignition system (or a plain ole fuse if ya choose) but this business of making in-lines and power pellets with sabots ect. is making a "Modern Firearm" and completely circumvents the spirit and intent of the muzzleloader. It is really an insult to the history and heritage of America. I am not mad at any of you folks that use the new modern muzzleloaders I am just saying that I hate to see a piece of America go away and so I say keep the Tradition of American Historic Muzzleloading alive and support "Primitive Firearm Hunting Seasons" (Muzzleloaders as they were in the 1800's). I do not like it when people are knowingly ignorant and these legislators and government rule makers know full and well that the modern muzzleloader of today has no business in a "Primitive Hunt". Operating a Muzzleloader isn't for everybody so why bend rules for those citizens who do not want to do what it takes to operate a true muzzleloader?

Dryball

This statement is almost worthy of being a sticky! See if you can modify it so as not to offend any of our members and I'll add it to our introduction to new members. Or at the least we will make it a sticky. Maybe make a new board called Rant and Rave? Not kidding...I agree with you a 100 percent!

I see nothing to offend..........and my sensitive feelings are easily offended you know (squeaky little voice)

I wish there were better hunting shows on tv with actual flintlock hunting. Anytime a muzzloader hunt is mentioned on tv it is a modern weapon, and they talk it up like it is some great challenge to harvest an animal with a In-line. I would love to see Jim Shockey hunting with a flintlock in Alaska, going after moose, and other big game species. Now that would be worth watching.

Ranger

Yes it would be worth watching. There is not much difference between a modern single shot rifle and some of these inlines. As a matter of fact, the electronic ignition is more modern than the single shot rifle or shotgun. In shotgun states such as Ohio you actually can have an advantage using an inline vs a shotgun. A shotgun cannot reach out much more than 100 yards where those newTC or CVA inlines can reach out 200 to 250 yards!

Seasons are set for game harvest requirements, not our pref. of weapon.  Also (likely more importantly) folk want the 'latest and greatest' of ___fill-in-the-blank____  The folks marketing the modern MLs have done a heck of a job of convincing folk that they need moderns more than they should to enjoy what they have.
It appeals to the "human condition".  I recently stopped at a BPS and Gander Mtn. stores, and didn't see any trad. MLs out on display..... sad, IMO.

OK, end of sermon!

'glad you liked it.

Anyways, there's only so many days in the hunting season (little "s", i.e. Fall and Winter), and if a "primitive weapons" season were established, then what would give?  Cutting days from modern-gun season would go over in most state legislatures like passing gas in church, and moving modern ML's to the modern gun season would likely fare as well.

IMO, introducing more folk to trad. MLs is what will need to take place.

edit to add:  'back to the topic.... I think that putting either electronic ignition or smokeless powder capability on a ML is giving way WAY too strong an invite to Mr. Murphy.... resulting in frustration in the extreme or an outright dangerous situation.  Still, it's a free country....... mostly.... still.

I agree, I took my 4 year old daughter with me to shoot my postal targets yesterday, and she had a great time. She didn't want to leave!! I may just have a future shooter on my hands.....I sure hope so anyways!!!!
